DEREK WRIGHT TAKES MONTHLY MEDAL WITH GROSS 66.

The best golf of the week was played on Sunday in the Monthly Medal with 39 players competing in a single division. An honourable mention goes to Tony Jones and Bill Lavers both returning nett 66 for third and fourth place respectively. Second place went to Dave Wright on 65 but first place went to younger brother Derek playing off of 3 handicap who returned a gross 66 (nett 63) to deservedly take the top spot in the competition.

Saturday was much more light hearted with the annual Trafalgar Scramble where you take the tee shots in turn rather than picking the best, the consolation is that there is a broadside hole where your points count double. Forty five players competed in teams of three with the husband and wife pairing of Rita and Dennis Smith helped by Kev Garrett coming out on top with 53 points their broadside hole nominated before play scoring a massive 10 points. Second place went to Vice Captain Bill Hinchen’s team made up with Keith and Derek Wright on 50 points. Three teams tied on 49 points with Russell MacGregor, Tim Harmer and Robbie Faulkner coming out on top on the back nine, commiserations go to Pete Cooper, Steve Orchard and Tony Black as well as fifth placed team of Keith Kimber, Colin Balfour and Dave Cooke.

The Midweek Medal played on Wednesday 17th saw more restrained scoring with Seniors Captain John Davis taking the first division with a nett 69 followed by Dave Morey in second carding a 71 and Derek Worsley in third on 72. Division Two was won by Peter Dawson with the best score of the day nett 68 two shots clear of Ray Cooke 70 in second place followed by Keith Brown finishing in third on the better back nine from Tim Deville, both players carding a nett 72.
