HALF TERM HOPEFULS SEEN OFF BY SENIORS CAPTAIN

There were twenty eight entries in the Freshwater Bay Mid Week Medal played on Wednesday 20th February with the field split into two divisions. Solid scoring was the order of the day in Division 1 with Graham Wells (10) taking top spot with nett 68, Myles Taylor (5) finished second on the same score just losing out on count back with John Veal (13) in third place carding a 70. Division 2 was a totally different matter with the top three players reducing their handicaps, two upcoming juniors on half term break finished in second and third places, Kasey Tuckey (21) returning a 65 and Stephen Cooke (28) one shot ahead on 64, six shots clear in first place though was Seniors Captain Ray Cooke (19) recording a magnificent nett 58 (gross 77).

A fun three ball scramble was played on the Saturday with early players beset by hill top fog the eventual winners came from the afternoon entries with first place going to James Veal, John Veal & John Sexton playing off a handicap of 4.5 to return a nett 58. Second place went to the infamous Wright brothers with Derek, Dave and Keith finishing on 61 off of 4 handicap. The only morning players to complete finished third with Tony Keen, Nigel Cooke and Gary Holmes scoring a 61.75 against the odds.

The Sunday Stableford saw a good entry of 37 players split into two divisions, Keith Wright (8) took first place in Division 1 with an excellent 42 points, good enough to reduce his playing handicap to 6. Simon Smith scored 39 points off his five handicap to finish in second place two points ahead of Richard Frost (6) in third. Division 2 saw the Juniors coming once more to the fore with Stephen Cooke (26) taking the honours with 38 points whilst Kasey Tuckey (20) held off Frank Gregory (25) to take second spot on count back, both players carding 37 points.
