COVID-19/Corona Virus Information UPDATED 17/6/2020

I finally have some good news for you.  Following the announcement that there would be changes to the lockdown situation we are delighted to be able to inform you that we are able to re-open Freshwater Bay Golf Course from Wednesday 13th May 2020.  There will however be some restrictions in place initially to ensure the safety of everyone.

Firstly and most importantly the Clubhouse Bar will remain closed, however there will be limited access to the toilets.  This is a situation that we will keep under review.  If you have left articles in a locker you will be able to collect them by contacting the secretary.

We are pleased that visitors and non-members can play on the course however they must contact the office to book a Tee Time prior to arrival.

The advice from the Government and England Golf currently states that no more than 4 golfers can play together. Those wishing to play alone may do so. You may play with a member of your own household or with a friends.

In order to maintain social distancing on the course and to protect our membership we will be operating a tee time booking system which will be strictly enforced.

In order to play golf you must first ring the Secretary, on 01983 752955.  He will be available to take bookings between 9:00am – 12:00 mid-day on week days.  Please arrive at least 10 minutes early for your tee time and wait in your car until the 1st tee is entirely clear and it is safe to begin your game.

Thursday mornings will remain reserved for Ladies between 9 -11.30 with tee times booked in advance with the secretary.  Ladies may if they wish play on other days & times.

Benches, ball washers, rakes and bins have all been taken out of use. Bunkers will be in use and you are requested to smooth them with your club or shoe.  You may place your ball in a bunker if you have a bad lie. There will be no competitive golf at the present time but it will be re-introduced as soon as we are able to. The grass practice area, but not the covered bays can be used if you are on your own.  The practice putting green can be used by no more than 2 golfers at a time.

We request that you do not touch flags either on the course or putting green, and maintain safe social distancing at all times.   Modifications have been made to holes to enable safe removal of golf balls without having to touch the flag.

Buggies will be available to use but only if they are booked with the secretary at least 24 hours in advance.

Safe social distancing must be kept at all times and we strongly recommend that you carry a hand sanitizer.

Some of the modifications and changes that we have made are not in keeping with the way that we have traditionally played and socialised at Freshwater Bay Golf Club.  Hopefully most of the changes can be modified as the situation improves. Safety and well being are the biggest priority.   Clearly the bar is going to be closed for some time.  We will keep you informed of any developments.

Best wishes,

David Cooke

Chairman FBGC
